SERVING in the SUEZ CANAL ZONE of EGYPT until 1956

Were you in any way connected with the British Armed Forces serving in the Suez Canal Zone ?

Do any of the following place names bring back memories to you ?

Geneifa - Abu Sultan - El Hamra - Deversoir - Kabrit - El Ballah - Shandur - Abyad - El Kirsh - Adabiya

Welcome to this Suez Canal Zone website, which is not a boring account of my time in the Canal Zone whilst serving
my two and a half years out there with the RAF, nor is it planned to rival the Suez Canal Zone chapter of the Britain's
Small Wars website or the Suez Veterans Association's official site, but be more of a companion to them.  It is hoped
the contents will be of interest, not only to those who served in the Canal Zone but to anyone who has a curiosity of that
area.  The main map of the Canal Zone and the Roll of Honour pages are reproduced on this site with permission of the
BSW (Suez Canal Zone) website editors.  There are now over 500 photos in the 'Photo Album' pages, a few are my
own, all the others have been submitted for inclusion by Suez Veterans who have visited the site and there are some
good ones of that time in Egypt.  As ideas develop and progress is made there will be more pages and photos added.
I thank you for paying a visit to the site and would appreciate you coming back occasionally to see what is new.
Please tell your colleagues about it, it is hoped there will always be something of interest for Suez Canal Zone Veterans,
their families and friends.  And please let me know what you think about the site, or have any suggestions to make.

If you find any mistakes on the site, or links that don't work, I will not be upset if you tell me about them.

IMPORTANT NOTICE

I regret that various personal problems have meant that for quite a while I could only do very little work on the website .  Unfortunately I have now decided to close the ‘Photo Album’ pages and am not able to accept any more photos for inclusion.  I already have a large number of photos in hand which I have not yet been able to include, and my apologies and thanks go to the people who have sent them.  The photo pages that are on the site will stay but will not be added to.  This has been a hard decision to make as I know the photo
pages are very popular and I have enjoyed maintaining  them.

During the past few weeks I have received e-mails which, ashamedly, some of them I have not been able to reply to.  Again I give my apologies to the senders.  I will try to keep the ‘Where Are You Now’ and the ‘Guest Book’ pages open but it may take longer for new entries to be included.  I am very pleased these pages have managed to help bring some old pals into contact with each other again, sometimes after about fifty years.

When I started the website in October 2004 I had the time, energy and ability to maintain it as often as needed, very often every day,
but in the last six years conditions have changed and I can no longer claim these conditions to the full.

I would like to thank: -
Everyone who have sent me material and photos for the site.
The people who have sent entries for the ‘Where Now’ and ‘Guest Book’ pages.
The large number of people who have e-mailed me with appreciation of the site, suggestions and queries.
Also thank you for your visits to the site, I hope you found it interesting.

The site will remain available as it is for as long as possible and hopefully, maybe, sometime in the future I will be able to start working on it again, in the meantime my regards and best wishes to everyone.

Charlie Delta.

I am flying the flag for Derbyshire.

Derbyshire flag
The Derbyshire Flag.

I know this has no connection with the Suez Canal Zone, but I am a Derbyshire lad and proud of it.
I was born and bred in the County and still live here amongst the Derbyshire Dales, - so I am showing our County flag.
